Time Zone

Japan uses Japan Standard Time (JST), GMT +9.

Electricity

Japan uses a 100-volt electrical system. The electrical frequency differs between regions:

  • Eastern Japan (including Tokyo): 50 Hz
  • Western Japan (including Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima): 60 Hz
Most modern electronic devices such as laptop chargers and smartphone adapters support both frequencies and can be used throughout Japan. However, some appliances—especially those with motors or timers (e.g., hair dryers or electric clocks)—may not function properly if they are not compatible with the local frequency.
Travelers from countries using 220–240V systems may need a voltage converter and plug adapter. Japan commonly uses Type A plugs (two flat pins).

Currency

The official currency of Japan is the Japanese Yen (JPY, ¥).
Banknotes are available in denominations of ¥1,000, ¥2,000 (rare), ¥5,000, and ¥10,000, while coins include ¥1, ¥5, ¥10, ¥50, ¥100, and ¥500.
Although credit cards and digital payments are increasingly accepted, cash is still commonly used in smaller restaurants, local shops, and traditional establishments. Visitors are therefore advised to carry some cash during their stay.

Insurance and Medical Emergencies

The conference organizers cannot assume responsibility for any medical or travel-related expenses incurred during the conference. Participants are strongly advised to obtain appropriate travel and medical insurance before traveling to Japan.

Visa Information

Participants are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa to enter Japan. To check whether you require a visa, please visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).
The conference organizers are unable to intervene with Japanese embassies/consulates on behalf of applicants regarding visa matters.
